Abilene Machine Chooses Lasernet to Gain Full Document Control

Abilene Machine, a leading agricultural manufacturer and supplier, was founded to help hard-pressed Kansas farmers locate replacement parts and machinery.

Over decades, the business's offerings grew to fill a 500-page catalog with everything from 20-ton combines to parts weighing a few ounces. Seeking a unified view of their growing and successful business, Abilene's team made the move to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC).

A Unified System Needs Unified Documents

As Abilene's team planned for the ERP rollout, they realized the standard BC document management tool would require external programming expertise, something Abilene did not want to commit to. The company needed a more flexible approach to document output and management.

The move from Oracle to Dynamics 365 just made too much sense for Abilene Machine to ignore. The company needed to replace its slow, manual document workflows. Relying on a patchwork of tools like Jasper, Cognos and Excel for reporting was inefficient. The move to BC provided a single, unified platform, eliminating the need to cobble together multiple tools.

As the team planned the rollout of the new ERP, they found themselves mulling over a one business-critical question: What about document management?

How Abilene Machine took back control of its documents

It was clear that the standard BC tool, RDLC, wouldn’t be suitable for the company’s document management needs. Creating and modifying RDLC layouts is a complex task that requires developer input, and Abilene Machine didn’t have that expertise in-house.

Since RDLC required external developer involvement, document changes were slow and costly. This dependency directly conflicted with the company’s agility and efficiency drive. Thankfully, Abilene Machine’s implementation partner introduced them to Lasernet, which empowered the team to take full control over document workflows without developer input.

Streamlined Document Workflows Inside Business Central

Almost overnight, the team spent less time on manual document tasks because Lasernet gave them:

Complete document control, from creation to archiving

Lasernet was integrated directly into Business Central, providing the company with complete document control in a way the team hadn’t experienced before. This meant that users of varying technical proficiencies could generate, distribute, and archive various documents, including sales quotes, order confirmations, packing slips and invoices, without seeking external help.

Intelligent automation that saves several hours every week

Using preconfigured processes, including triggers and templates, Abilene Machine automates the creation of business-critical documents. What used to eat up several hours every single week now takes a fraction of the time.

Lasernet provided real ROI from day one

By implementing Lasernet into Business Central, Abilene Machine was able to take full advantage of the ERP system’s capabilities without the need for time-consuming and costly external consultants. When asked about how the software impacted its day-to-day operations, the team didn’t hesitate to say that it was “the best experience they have ever had using an ISV.” They also drew particular attention to Lasernet’s form editing capabilities, saying: “The form editor is powerful.”

With newfound control over document creation, distribution and archiving, and automation saving them hours each week, the Abilene Machine team is no longer held back by document management chaos. They’re now free to focus more of their time on revenue-generating tasks that drive the business forward, with the confidence that their ERP and ISV adapt and scale with them.
